Call for papers: Wat gebeurt er? What is happening?
On 31 October a lively meeting of the KVNM took place at the University Museum in Utrecht, at which a number of board members presented their current research by means of a short introduction and posters. This was a good way for members and board members to get to know each other and to learn more about current research into Dutch music culture of past and present. We would like to continue to stimulate such dialogue and exchange between researchers. For that reason, a symposium will be organised as part of the next KVNM spring meeting.
This symposium, with the theme Wat gebeurt er?/What is happening? aims to present the broad range of current scholarship on music in the Netherlands from all historical periods. We invite proposals of maximum 300 words for either a 20 minute presentation or an A1-sized poster presentation. Apart from researchers within and outside the university, we encourage students, composers, performers and non-musicologists to submit a proposal. Apart from topics in composed classical music, we encourage presentations on contemporary and non-classical music styles. Proposals will be evaluated by a committee. Accepted proposals may be edited for publication as articles on the KVNM website.
The spring meeting will take place on 7 May 2016 at the Lutheran church in Haarlem, Witte Herenstraat 22. The deadline for proposals is 15 january 2016. Decisions by the evaluation committee will be communicated by 31 January 2016. Papers and proposals can be in either English or Dutch. Please send proposals to the KVNM secretary: secretaris(at)kvnm.nl.
We plan to dedicate the next meeting to international research on music history of the Netherlands.
We look forward to receiving your applications!
